[pct-l] Baden Powel

I am sorry the PCT gets to 1/4 of a mile to the top (that's what I meant). That last few 100 yards has more exposure and is often more icey than the official PCT (at least last year). The PCT then goes west on the ridge sometimes on the South but more often on the snowy North. I suppose one could rock scramble off the summit staying on the South Side of the ridge but this would only save a minuscule amount of exposure and only be advisable if the Northern Slope was icy rather than snowy. I guess a choice between loose scree for a hundred yards or ice.... I would choose your route with the scree. My guess is that this year there might still be snow on the South Side at 8900 through late Spring.

But the PCT has got to get closer than 1/4 of the way to the top. Mt
Baden-Powell is at 9400 feet correct ?? The PCT gets to at least 8900 feet
before going around the mountain...

The only thing that I wanted to avoid by going over the summit is that
portion of the ridge that is on the Northern side of the mountain, less than
a mile or two. Once we hot to the western side, the snow was gone...Does
anybody have a map of that area handy ??

Can you get back on the PCT without going back down the way you came ??

> Actually the PCT goes less than 1/4 to the top and there is ONLY ONE way
to Thrope, Little Jimmys and beyond. That would be to take the ridge which
is the PCT. So YES summit but there really is no alterative except for
taking the road - which rumor has it that is has had quite a few avalanches.
