[pct-l] The best lightweight shelter
Suggest reading "Beyond Backpacking" for full answers to
your questions and concerns about the tarp. In short, site
selection is all important, for users of both tarps and
tents. Bathtub floors give a false sense of security, and in
fact a well-selected site (ie soft, absorbent, pristine
ground, slightly sloped and/or raised above its
surroundings) is the only way to insure that heavy runoff
won't swamp your living area. Avoid camping on dished and
compacted ("campground") ground at any cost during a
rainstorm.
