I'd have to agree, in over 20 years of hiking in many different 
climates na dterrains, I've never been bit or struck at, or been with 
anyone who has.  IMO, a "Snake Bite Kit" is a complete waste of weight 
unless you have a shot of anti-venom, which I understand is really hard 
to get your hands on.
