[pct-l] Sierra Snow

I just got back from the Tahoe area. I tried to see if the trailhead
at Meeks Bay was at all hikable yet. Its not at all hikable yet unless
you want to wear snowshoes.

There was a ton of snow in early season this year. In fact, the most
on record since 1916, however, the spring in HOT and ths snow is
melting. All the ski areas were actually worried that the spring was
so warm and melting all the snow. They are all praying for cooler
weather and some late storms, which is the opposite of what most thru-
hikers will be praying for.

In my estimation, based on what I saw around Tahoe this weekend, this
year's Sierra snow will not present a problem for thru-hikers. BIG
CAVEAT: this only applies if there are no big spring storms. Two big
storms lat in the season could definitely change this forcast, but
right now its HOT and melting fast up there.

On another note, I'd be worried about water in Oregon this year. We
haven't had NEARLY enough snow this year. I think most places around
the state are at about 25% of normal for this time of year and its been
really HOT up here too.

HYOH.

peace,
dude
