[pct-l] Yaktrax

I used Yaktrax for my 2000 hike of the Wonderland Trail (Mt. Rainier).
For a longer hike, durability will be an issue. And they are definitely
not a substitute for crampons. I had snow ball up on them quite easily,
and they don't seem to have enough "bite" to gather sufficient traction.
They are light though, and fairly cheap, you could try them out.

Note: I am not sure how good they will work on a soft sole shoe (like
running shoes). You will need a stiff sole shoe/boot otherwise I think
they will come off every 20 paces.

Of course, someone else's experience with them might be different.

Has anyone used these? http://www.basegear.com/yaktraxpro.html

My current boss has used these as a replacement for when crampons are
overkill and says they have worked great without a pack--anyone else
used
them? In terms of durablity they are made out of the same rubber,
smaller
diminsion, which is used on snow chains so it should hold up.

Think of the weight savings and the greater convince then carrying full
crampons which seem to much when you are side hilling etc. And the cost

savings!!
