You never know what's going to happen in the spring in
California. However, last year was crazy in March - it
was SOOOO unseasonably hot and dry. It was in the low
90s in early March in the Central Valley. We had
basically no precip after the end of February and a
sizzling March and warm/normal April, so there wasn't
much snow left. Made for an easy hike in the Sierra.

I think this year will be VERY different. It's heading
into mid-March and it's still raining and snowing. I
bet there will be lots of snow in the San Jacintos and
on the passes in the High Sierra. Sounds kinda fun - I
took a winter mountaineering course before last years
through hike, and sure didn't need it for the hike!
Just learn to use your ice axe! (don't just buy it and
strap it to your pack)

Wonder what April will be like.
