[pct-l] Trail Running Shoes

I would actually avoid any so called "trail shoes" for
the desert sections. Because they are "burly" they
tend to be less breathable. Being less breathable
means your feet cook more in desert. And keep in mind,
the PCT is a nicely graded trail; far less rocky and
rooty than the AT for sure and probably than some of
the ultras Catra has done. You really do not need a
stiff trail shoe if your load is light.

Chris has the best rule of thumb yet for good shoes
for the desert section (in my opinion): you should be
able to feel the wind going through the mesh and over
your toes. I find plain old sneakers aka running shoes
work really well for the desert section.

I started off in trail shoes and my feet were
hamburger helper. Switched to Nike Air Pegasuses at
Big Bear Lake
and my feet were in a state of Nirvana.

Though I readily admit do not have anyway nearly the
trail running experience of Catra, find they work well
for my own trail running too. (Newbie ultra runner
myself. All of one 50 miler under my belt. Have a lot
to learn about this new hobby! :D)

As always YMMV.
