Last year while on the JMT Yo Yo. I saw many hikers in Trail shoes. Saw hardly any boots.
I would suggest Montrail Highline or the Wasatch. They are awesome and sturdy. I use those models in the more burly 100's I run.
I always where my 100 race shoes bigger 1/2 size. My street shoe are 7 or 7.5. I always wear size 8 in my trail shoes and 8.5 for hundreds.
I was know as the blister queen back in my first few ultras. I use elastikon and benzion when taping. Fixing your Feet is an awesome book that talks all about foot care.
The latest edition even has a picture of me taping my feet getting ready for a solo 100 mile in Yosemite where at mile 57 I climbed a 5 pitch route called Nutcracker. Then finished the rest of my 100. I wanted to be the first person to run 100 miles and do a rock climb in the middle..
I love life....
