[pct-l] Etna and Daniel Webster - NOT the rest of the story

FYI, the short news article Craig posted to PCT-L is NOT "the rest of the story".  
 
When I stayed at the Hiker Hut in 2003, Daniel told me the whole story.  The abreviated version is that there are people in Siskiyou County who did not like what Daniel was printing in the newspaper which he owned and was editor of.  These people, who included law enforcement personnel, wanted to get control of the paper.  They planned ways to trap Daniel into a situation where he would have to sell the paper.  Before that happened, Daniel sold the paper to his Mother, and Daniel continued as the Editor.  
 
The charges against Daniel were fabricated, from what I know of the story.  Daniel printed an article in the paper which was several PAGES long, detailing the ENTIRE story.  
 
Daniel was a great asset to the hiking community.  Because of the charges against him, he was unable to purchase the Alderbrook Manor.  He wanted to buy the B&B and continue the tradition of the Hiker Hut.
 
I'm disappointed that Craig chose to post this short article here on PCT-L, while stating that the 
"magic apparently got a little out of hand", and implying the worst about Daniel.  Don't believe everything you read.  Craig's little article is NOT "the rest of the story".  Instead, it perpetuates the fabricated charges against Daniel.  
 
I have to wonder what was Craig's motivation for posting that article.  Simply put, it was mean-spirited.

offense. He was sentenced to 200 hours of community service (since
completed), 3 years of probation, counseling, and fined/feed $478.00.
All other charges were dismissed.
