It has been done. The first issues of "Backpacker Magazine" were numbered  from "Number 1" up when first issued in the early 1970s, I think 1973. I have them and they are pure vintage informational references, devoted to adventure and backpacking, and  devoid of commercialism; and the little bit of advertisements within each issue, today are valued by the retro and vintage backpacking crowd.  I treasure my first editions. If you ever see them on ebay, buy it now.  BP magazine 30 yrs ago was just about the only information available!! Stop complaining about too much information, and gear choices, you young whippersnappers!!
