[pct-l] Cold weather clothes

I've got a minor question to ask.  
Being from southern Arizona, I've not really had much exposure to
extended cold weather backpacking.  What would be a good combination
for the colder parts of the trail?  I was thinking of wearing a base
layer, long sleeve, a soft shell jacket and have a rain jacket that
packs small for a third layer.  Will this be enough?  What are some
examples of cold weather clothing that you'll be carrying on the
trail?
