[pct-l] Technology on the Trail

My watch is an automatic, it does not have batteries. On the back you can
look inside and you see all these mysterious little wheels and bolts. I
use it from time to time on a hike when the going gets tough: if I make it
to the pass in under half an hour... I should be able to go on for at
least another hour... I can give myself a candy after another half hour of
hard climbing... I'd love to use an MP3 player in about the same way: to
carry me over my dips and bumps with a song. Of course I don't *need* it.
But I think it's probably worth the .78 of an ounce (iPod Shuffle) to
carry.
