Of the towns in the Sierras Independence is one of the easiest to get
to. 
Kersage is an easy pass and you can go down in morning, go to the PO
and be back in the afternoon.  Just keep track of you holidays and
Sundays. I think a lot of people just opt to go from KM to Vermillion
straight through. Independence is the easiest hitch because the road
to the TH is the road to the PO. It is a popular spot and many people
come and go from their.
