[pct-l] PCT Hikers per Capita

I'ts lonely here in the midwest. PCT hikers who call Kansas City home: TWO. Just me and Noid (PCT '01). Although she's not even here now. She's in New Zealand for 6 months of backpacking.

Yes, Ashland is truly another hiker zone. What I've observed is that a number of thru-hikers decided to settle in Ashland after hiking the PCT. Some have stayed and worked at the hostel there, as I recall.

Chuckie's right about Boulder being another big hiker outpost.

Interestingly, Montana and Alaska (as a whole states) also boast a great number of hikers for such a sparse populations, from a "per capita" perspective.

I've actually got the information from past years on where folks are from in the little record I keep of who has come through, along with the register. It's interesting how many people who thru-hike don't know where to call home at the point they're on the trail. I noticed that in '04 we stopped writing down home towns and only wrote names and dates. I just started glancing through the 2003 record, and looking at all the names and places, and remembering the people, gives the warmest feeling on a cold rainy day.

For a town 9 mi. from the PCT, Ashland has an underwhelming number of
obsessive hikers.
