[pct-l] Picking up mail when the PO is closed

One caveat - even if a PO person is there while the PO is closed, they are
not REQUIRED to do anything for you, including anwering your polite knock,
so please don't make it hard on those hikers who will come later nor make an
idiot of yourself by demanding or arguing about it. We don't need any
negativity generated in those on whose good efforts we as hikers depend.

That said, most of the people at the PO's along or near the PCT are used to
smelly, ragged hikers showing up at odd hours and will go out of their way
to accomodate you. There are exceptions, but fortunately they are rare - the
tiny PO station at Echo Lake Resort near Tahoe has a reputation as
anti-hiker. On the other extreme, Belden, Old Station, Castle Crags, and
Stehekin can't seem to do enough for you.

 My response:

That means that the PO is closed. Post offices that are closed on
Saturdays usually have someone there sorting the mail that arrived that day.
If the sorter is there, they will give you your mail (letters and packages).

You usually have to knock on doors to get the Saturday mail sorter's
attention. If you're going to use this system to pick up mail, I suggest
calling the PO from the previous town, just to check if someone will be
there on Saturday.
