Woah, horsie. Not all hay tastes the same. The Arizona Trail
is quite navigable these days, and comes highly recommended
by the way. The Hayduke Trail is a concept - a route -
rather than a trail per se. It is "basically finished"
inasmuch as its brainchildren will be walking the route
they've laid out, this spring, and then releasing a guide.
Same deal as with my Gila-Tortilla Trail. Trailbuilders -
the winching and wincing types, deserve more credit for
unfinished business than us Topo! navigating bushwhack
geeks.
PS - When finished the AZT will probably weigh in at around
740-760 miles, rather than the long-touted 800. For those
wanting a taste of what this trail has to offer, head east
of Phoenix about an hour on Hwy 60 and part at the
Picketpost Mountain trailhead. Incredible terrain, nobody
knows about it, and the route is a very worthwhile challenge
while it's still in development here.
