[pct-l] Horse encounters

I have never had any trouble with horses on the trail.

About 15 years ago I was taking a rest break (sitting down ) when a rider
leading a pack horse came into view. When she was about 40 ft away I
spoke to her and she asked me to stand up, since she said that a horse
could not recognize a talking lump on the ground.

This past summer I was hiking with Marge ( The Old Gal ) on a approach
trail to the PCT near the Goat Rocks Wilderness. It was pretty brushy and
I could only get off the trail about two feet on the downhill side. The rider
stopped and the horse started nuzzling (sp?) me on the chest with
his mouth. It wasn't bad, just surprising. The rider explained that the
handlers often kept their horse treats in their shirt pockets and the horse
was just looking for a treat.
