[pct-l] Manning PCT

This is my favorite stretch in Washington, but I didn't think it was terribly difficult. Of course, I had walked around 2600 miles before reaching it, so you might find it more challenging. Beatiful, open lands with stunning mountains around and some really well designed trail. There are some sweaty climbs, of course, but it is really, really good. The area is not heavily populated with grizzly, so I wouldn't worry about them too much. Just take standard bear precautions: Cook in the afternoon a few hours before you reach camp. Deal with your food in one of the many possible manners (hang, bear canister, that other one that no one likes to talk about, etc). Try not to camp in heavily used areas. The stretch from Stehekin to the border took me and Birdie about 2.5 days, so 4-5 days is certainly a fine time frame. If you have extra time, consider going all the way to Stehekin and catching a boat out. Enjoy.

> Not having a whole lot of free time I hope to take the PCT 1 year at a time in 1 week increments, starting in '05 in Manning Canada.
> -I'd like to start with the first 70 miles from Manning to Washingtons Rainy Pass. I have read that this is one of the most challenging areas of the trail?
> I hope to do this in 4/5 days either late July or the first week of September.
> Since this area is heavily populated with Grizzely, that is my only concern.
