[pct-l] Manning PCT
If you see a bear you will be one of the fortunate few. Don't worry about
them - of any type. Bear canisters are not needed nor is hanging food in
trees. (Note: it really is only the High Sierra section in the National
Parks that have bear issues for most people.)
I think the 1st week of September may be better than end of July, but both
will work. If you are flexible, check the weather and let that be your
guide. You really don't want to hike this beautiful section in the rain.
If you are just starting out, you may well find the section challenging
because there are some steep climbs on ridges. Even getting to the border
from Manning can be a challenge. Enjoy!

Subject: [pct-l] Manning PCT
Not having a whole lot of free time I hope to take the PCT 1 year at a time
in 1 week increments, starting in '05 in Manning Canada.
-I'd like to start with the first 70 miles from Manning to Washingtons Rainy
Pass. I have read that this is one of the most challenging areas of the
trail?
I hope to do this in 4/5 days either late July or the first week of
September.
Since this area is heavily populated with Grizzely, that is my only concern.
Comments, concerns and opinions please.
Thanks
