[pct-l] bicycles

Actually, the regs are even more restrictive - no wheeled vehicles, bikes of
any type (motorized or not), carts, etc. About the only exception I have
seen are official trail crews with the wheeled mileage measurers.

So, on the PCT, leave the wheels at home. But, if you want wheeled vehicles
(some types are limited), try the CT or CDT in non-Wilderness areas.

I think the reasoning is to provide a peaceful, quiet, non-mechanical
journey. And wheels could often lead to erosion and mud tracks (beyond that
done by horses and humans on foot) in many sections of this trail.
Interestingly, in Colorado I found little evidence of any trail destruction
by mountain bikes. But go out on the PCT in southern California and see the
mess the motorized bikes have done.
