On The North Face: 

At one point, about a year ago, I decided not to buy TNF stuff anymore. I
tried out their Stowaway jacket, which started leaking after one week. Then
I bought their trailrunners (don't remember the name) which completely broke
down from the inside.

We do have a Slickrock tent by TNF that I like.
And this season I bought a tanktop with built-in bra and zip-off pants and
those were great. I wore them every day on the JMT.

So maybe TNF is good at tents and relatively simple clothing, but not at
gore-tex or shoes? 

It's just one of the brands and if it fits me (I am not really average size)
I'm happy...
