What I am using right now is the 6.3 ounce (4 lithium batteries) SteriPen.
It uses ultra violet light to kill everything in the water container.
It seems to work great at home. Who knows if it is really killing all the
cooties, but it works as advertised with the lights. You can see ultra violet,
so a visible light comes on so you know it is on.
More info:
1. Bought at REI for $150, but cost me $10 with store credits.
2. Bought some 1-liter, 2.25 ounce wide mouth bottles from Walmart, so I can
"stir" the light probe around in the water.
3. Carry it in my belly pack.
4. Bought some women's white stockings and cut off one foot section to slip
over water bottle to filter out larger contaminates Instructions for light
filter say that water should be as clear as possible so the light can do its
work.
5. One liter takes 60 seconds and 2-liters take 90 seconds.
6. Good for like 5,000 doses before light has to be replaced.
I like it. Simple to carry and to use. Another boy toy for my packing
system. Ray Jardine would be disappointed in me.
I am taking it on the big Section E expedition starting Saturday. But I am
casheing so much water today along the trail, that I will probably not use it.
Go figure.
