[pct-l] RE: Recommend Weather Instrument?

John,
I like the Kestrel series in weather gauges. The top-of-the-line (Kestrel
4000) measures everything relevant to short term weather prediction:
barometric pressure, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, etc. and
then calculates other relevant parameters such as dew point. What I like
about it is it automatically turns on every 2 hours and samples all these
parameters and then turns off. Then it has a nice graphical display of
trends. Of course, I am a weather nerd, so I had to get that one (I think it
is a bit more than 200 dollars, though). You might want to check out the
other models at:

www.kestrel-instruments.com/

I love keeping track of altitiude/time data or baro/time as well as
temperature drops or inversions. It does an excellent job of that. Battery:
2 AAA and low drain rate..
