[pct-l] Re:Crown Fire

Hey All!
My pessimism of yesterday was unfounded as the Crown Fire is under control!
I took a spin out Hwy 14 and over to Pine Cyn today.

I saw no angry plumes of smoke bellowing up thousands of feet into the air
just lots of fire engines and helicopters looking for something to do! The
wind was strong enough that if pushed the fire east and north toward Little
Rock dam and has not affected the PCT. A revesal of those winds this morning
pushed the fire back on it's self and out, just like in the Verbenia Fire
near Snow Creek.

The Pine Cyn rd area was as I expected , a moonscape.... most of the pines
are toast, but a good many of the oaks will survive, this area won't look
like it did anytime soon as it hadn't burned since 1927, on the other hand
the wildflowers will be tremendious. The road to Liebre Mtn was still closed
so I couldn't get a look up there, some times the perimeters aren't all that
accurate.

crossed over the trail from 502.7 to 503.6 further south it burned over the
trail intermittently from 498.2 to 500.3.

of historic proportions would be needed to reach it.

of the trail Near Mt Gleason & Pacifico Mtn though no perimeters have been
made available. The MODIS data shows 3 points of origin, the 1st along Moody
Cyn Rd, 2nd along Aliso Cyn Rd and the 3rd along Mt Emma Rd, unless they can
stop it dead today, it will be racing up Mt Gleason's North Side in Gleason
& Aliso Cyns, over Mt Emma Way they have a better chance to stop the fire as
Kentucky Cyn Burned in 1994, they had lots of helicopters (14 I think) and
fixed wing aircraft on the job immediately, let's hope the weather improves
and they nab the sick-o that did this and the Pine Fire.

this keeps up, judging by what's happened the last 2 years, the forest will
be closed before long, when you are out on the trail be extra careful with
fire
