[pct-l] Wildfires near Acton, CA, and Vicinity

A new wildfire, the Crown fire, started near Acton, CA, today.
It is burning in Aliso Canyon. The Angeles Forest Highway has been
closed, and there's concern that this fire might burn to the top of
the San Gabriel mountains -- perhaps even to Wrightwood. So, while
the fire's still a few miles from the PCT, it's probably not a good
idea to go hiking in that area.

Also, the air quality's very poor due to all the smoke from
the fires in the region. You shouldn't exercise in air like this,
anyway. :-( Can anyone on this list living closer to the fire, say in
Agua Dulce, provide more details?

Last weekend, the Foothill Fire started near Santa Clarita,
southeast of Agua Dulce. It was started by a red tailed hawk that
fried itself on a high tension power line and fell, flaming, to the
ground below. It's not quite as close to the PCT, but could grow to
the PCT if not contained. It has shut down roads in the area,
including Hwy 14, which could affect hiker access to the area.

These two fires will be managed as a unit. Info, including
maps, will be available at the following site:
