[pct-l] ca fire permits

Perhaps the answer is for the PCTA to liaison with the forest service and or
BLM to bring a whole bunch of the permits to the kick-off next year. They
could then be given out to the thru-hikers who are there. Is that feasible?

Subject: [pct-l] ca fire permits

as far as i can tell, to be perfectly legal to use a backpack stove in cal,
u need a cal campfire permit where it is required. i am starting on
sectionf..pct guide states campfire permit reqd. i got my pct thru hiker
permit today. on the letter accompanying the permit is the sentence.."local
rules still apply including fire and dog leashing requirements". its no big
deal to get the fire permit..it doesnt cost anything but as far as i can
tell u cannot get one by mail or internet. u must go into a blm or forestry
dept. office and get one...i have called 2 blm offices and was told quite
'matter of factly' it could not be mailed.... but considering the fact that
a good percentage of the people who need this permit are from out of state,
where time and transportation are an issue to begin with, it seems like alot
of running around for a free permit? whatta ya think?
