I have never had a problem with a pepsi can stove. Since they weigh about 
.5 oz they are the lightest of any other form of stove, save esbit tabs. 
The only trade off comes on longer trips, where the energy density of the 
fuel starts becoming a factor.

FWIW, I've had both MSR and GAZ stove "flare up" ( I still remember 
watching a flaming Gaz stove arc down a cliff in the twilight....)

I think that ALL stoves (and fire in general) are dangerous and need 
extreme caution.
