Hi all,
I did a 62 mile out-n-back this weekend, north from Hwy 74 (B6-B9).
Started Friday at 3 PM and got to Cedar Springs at 7 PM through some
howling winds of around 25 MPH over the passes. Good flow into and out
of the trough. Friday mileage - 12 miles. Left Cedar Sat. at 6:20 AM and
went north to Taquitz creek (good flow, lots of boy scouts). Headed up
towards Saddle junction and did a loop around the San Jacinto forest,
back to Taquitz creek (more scouts) then went all the way south to the
saddle just north of Apache Peak. Saturday miles - 30 (my first 30
miler). Hiked for 12 hours including stops. Left camp this morning at
5:50 and was back at the car at 1:20. Sunday miles - 20. 9 gallons
remaining in the Cache at the monument.
Other notes: Did not check water at Apache or any other spots not noted
above. Passed 8 Nobo Thru-hikers, so they're still coming! Most left the
border around May 10. Best weekend quotes - "what day is it", and "when
do these f'ing climbs end!".
Great hike, lots of elevation change.
