[pct-l] Fwd: Snow Pack

>From the Yosemite Wilderness office:

Snow Pack/Water Year in the Sierra

The latest report from State Water Resources says that because the snowpack melted about one month ahead of average, the snowpack for May 1 is now 31% of average for the entire state, and ranges from 48% in the northern Sierra to 19% in the southern Sierra. Note this refers to SNOWPACK. The WATER YEAR, which refers to a more complex group of measurements including how much precip fell through the year, is now at 68% of the 50 year average for the state. They are quick to say this is not in the "D" word range (drought) but that it is likely we will notice things getting drier and the reservoirs lowering more quickly by July or August. Since last year was pretty median in terms of water, the effects this year will not be as dramatic as they will be if we get another year of this sort.
