[pct-l] Arson Suspected in Lake Arrowhead Fires

There were five small forest fires near Lake Arrowhead in the
San Bernardino National Forest on Monday. They have been contained.
One may heve been started by a faulty power line, but there is
suspicion that one or more of them may have been the work of an
arsonist.

This is roughly the same area as last fall's devastating
fires, some (all?) of which were attributed to arson. There's still
lots of dry, dead timber in the forest, and, as anyone in the Los
Angeles area will attest, the weather is hot and dry. We already
had one uncontrolled fire in the Big Bear area. Ladies and gentlemen,
forest fire season has resumed.

Hikers, please check with the Forest Service when you enter
the San Bernardino mountains. Keep an eye peeled for smoke. Of
course, if you're hiking in an area that burned last fall, well, look
at the upside: you're relatively safe from a new fire.
