[pct-l] GPS, distance and speed



The intentional errors for personal-use GPS was called Selective
Availability (SA).  The full accuracy signal was available, but you had to
have the correct codes to unlock it, which only the military had. A few
years ago, Bill Clinton had the SA removed.  
I've done some projects in college regarding the accuracy of more high-end
GPS units that are not hand-held, but have to be mounted to either a tall
stick or a backpack.  It takes some processing, and checking with the local
conditions, but we've gotten our measurements down to millimeters. 
 
But for handheld GPS, even getting within 20-30ft is more than good enough
for me, as I can find myself within that oval on the map.
