Please, let's stop scaring people here for no reason. Yes, life is dangerous
and there are bad people out there. Yes, some of them are along the border.
Be aware of that and move on.
If you're nervous, go with a group. There is safety in numbers - from people
and bears. Don't have a group? FORM ONE. Pick up some temporary partners at
the trailhead or at ADZPCTKO or from this list. Going alone? Common sense
dictates that you put at least 10 miles between the border and your first
night's campsite, which should not be right beside the trail in plain sight.
Find a hole in the sagebrush.
Leave the guns at home because:
1. They're extra weight you don't need
2. They give a false sense of security when you should be relying on your
common sense
3. They represent a hazard to you and anyone around you
4. They can promote a minor incident into a really bad one if you get scared
or threaten someone with it
5. They can get you into really deep legal troubles if you ever use it on
someone.
6. Gunshots scare the Hobbits away and attract unwanted attention
