Hi everyone-
Well, he's off. I drove my husband, Darrell, to Campo yesterday and he's on
the trail, with our dog. He plans to hike to Kennedy Meadows, come home to
work till the end of July, and then return to KM, without the dog, to hike the
remaining miles in California. Oregon and Washington will be next year.
Reading the book at the trailhead, we saw that there were two other hikers
who began this weekend. One person named J. Bradley Materick, also with a dog,
started on the 7th; someone named Brian Parkin started yesterday, before we
were there.
I want thank everyone on this list for your great sense of community and
sharing. One of the many ways that I've helped Darrell prepare is that I have
been reading this list for many months now to glean info. We have both been
astounded at the amount of valuable information that is shared here. Lots of our
most valuable lists have come from these emails. Things that have confirmed
some choices that Darrell had already made, others that have give him pause to
consider alternate techniques and approaches, and some things that frankly had
not occurred to him at all. We are really grateful.
Wanted you all to know that we spoke to the fellow at the Kennedy Meadows
store this weekend. He is there, on weekends, now until the last Saturday of
April, when he will open full time. For anyone who needs to know, the weather in
Campo is unseasonably hot right now, in the 90's already. Darrell will be
calling me from his resupplies. Whenever I have any useful trail information,
I'll send it along to you.
Thank you all again...
Betsy
