[pct-l] Money

While my post was tongue in cheek....
Tangent- you've just increased the weight of packed currency five-fold!!!!!
(tsk-tsk-tsk)

On a more serious note:

Tangent, Point well taken. I imagine just about all the small stores along the trail might gag on a $100 bill.
Besides, just about every fast food joint has a sign about "...anything over a $20..."

I live by my debit card! You can buy just about anything, just about anywhere with it. Believe me, you, I've done it!
But a few $20 bills tucked into your pack would be a wise practice. Who knows? I'd hate to be in a position with a cold oilcan at the check out counter and the credit card machine down...

But what about those quarters? Has anyone had a problem getting change wherever coin-op conveniences are available?

Last August, on the road between Telluride and Lake City in Colorado, we stopped at a state park to take a shower. And wouldn't you know it? The visitor's center had no change! We divvied the 12 quarters we scraped up (subsidized by the few we found under the car mats and seats). The coin-op shower promised 2 minutes for four quarters. I wisely let my buddies go first, just to see how "quick" those 2 minutes were...
Seeing that 2 minutes in Mountain time is a bit shorter than my accustomed 120 seconds Pacific, I had what amounted to the quickest shower I've ever performed. There was a small RV park in Lake City that had unlimited shower time for about $8, if I remember correctly... We headed back to town after a few days "in country" and between peak bagging (Red Cloud/Sunshine and Handies). Had pizza at "Poker Alice" afterwards (mmmmmm. Highly recommend it!).

Money well spent.

Some of the smaller establishments balk at large bills, if they do not have
sufficient change. Carrying 5 twenties, while heavier, was better for me.

Tangent
