[pct-l] What pack weight?

What is to be included in the "base pack" weight? I have always wondered
what the standard definition was.

Are you counting the clothes you wear? shoes? Trekking poles? Ice axe? I
wouldn't count these even though you will be carrying them on your body or
hands - but not on your back. The ice axe will add weight only in the
section you carry it, so I count that as an extra, like food and extra water
jugs. At other times you may need to add more clothing.

Your list looks really good. You probably would like if it you could drop a
few pounds. But maybe if you exclude the above, you would be counting less.
The pack is 3 pounds. How heavy is the Marmot gear? You might substitute
light weight plastic water bottles for the nalegene and save a couple of
ounces. Drop the trowel and use a stick you find on the trail.

You omitted maps, papers, etc. Also camera gear.
