Hi Judson,
Now you made me get the book out and really look at the map and here is
what I think?
I have just always followed the trail from the border to Lake Morena and not
had the guide book out. Ok here is what I think:
The text on the right hand side of the guide book page 73 is referring to
the bottom part of map A3 until you reach Hauser Creek. Then you follow it
up over Hauser Mtn to Lake Morena.
Now the map that they have put it as A4 you follow the trail on the upper
part where A4 & A3
Meet and then when you turn the page over it comes into A5 at the bottom
left corner.
I think they have made it confusing with the text at the bottom of map A4.
Unless they have rerouted the trail from Lake Morena South. I think they
have included the map of A4 just for that little bit at the top so it has a
sequence into A5.
Your guess is as good as mine.

No, I'm talking about the text above the grey box on p. 73. And from the
text of the guidebook, that route shown on A4 is the actual route. So why
does that note say it isn't?

Hi there, I am assuming you are talking about the Grey box on page 73 in the
new PCT southern Calif book. It is referring to a view....It has the
binoculars up on the left hand side. The text that is in the Grey blocks
each have a symbol...see page 59 in the book. The map above the grey block
is not the route we take, it is there just for your information. At least
that is what I interpret it as being. Cheers,
Marge [The Old Gal]

I asked this question a while ago, but never got an answer: Can anybody
explain what the box below map A4 is referring to? Is that section no longer
in use? If so, it makes no mention of where the trail should be instead. I'm
confused.
