[pct-l] cold weather clothes

To echo other peoples experience, in '02 Cathy and I encountered a small
snow storm in section D. We camped at Guffy Camp and temps were around
20 degrees and the snow was blowing. There was no clear ground so we
camped on snow. Brrr. We were prepared with thermals and 20 degree
sleeping bags, but still cold. This was the coldest night on the PCT for
us.

I think you could encounter a cold night like that along any stretch
before Sierra City, except possibly in sections E and F. Also, I tend to
think thru-hiking lowers your resistance to cold because of weight loss
and caloric deficit. Be prepared.

Kent.

Which sections of the trail will we need our cold weather clothes?? I
have been told that early on in the hike it can get cold and we might
need it, but we don't want to carry unnecessary weight, for something we
don't need, but we don't want to freeze either. Any input will be
appreciated.
