[pct-l] RE: Backpacking Computers

There's a device that's close, BUT it's not suitable for the trail. Garmin
just came out with the iQue 3600, an integrated Palm OS5/GPS in a 5.2oz pkg
. It does not have a camera or phone. It does have all the Palm
capabilities, plus GPS, MP3 abilities, and a virtual graffiti area for a
bigger screen. Why won't it work on the trail? Battery life is dismal and
rechargeables.

My www.walkingwired.com <http://www.walkingwired.com/> site is not ready
for prime-time, but you can find more information about the iQue by
following the GPS link. [I also have sections about Web journals, email on
the trail, and how to get a snazzy web and email address easily and cheaply
(I'm not selling anything.).]

I've always thought they should make the screen of a Palm handheld a solar
panel: put the screen in the sun to recharge the batteries. Any engineers
out there?

My Palm journal setup for PCT 2002 is at
http://www.cupcakewalk.com/pct2002/journal/system.html. I'll probably use
the same setup next year on the CDT but with a smaller and lighter keyboard.
