[pct-l] Orthotics

John asked:
>> Hi. Who has prescription orthodics? I got a pair from my doctor... They're carbon fiber inserts. The specialist glued a cushioned insert (like a DR. Scholl's type) to it. He then took out the factory inserts from my shoes and dropped these in... My question is : Has anyone used these type and how do you change the cushioned part (it is glued to the carbon fiber part)? Can I just tear it off and glue some of those Superfeet (are they just cushions or actual arch supports) to them? If so, what type of glue and how often did you change them?

I'd go back to whoever made your orthotics and ask them how they glued them together. If they glued on insert is a flat green Dr. Scholls, it will hold up for a long time, I'd guess at least half of a PCT thru-hike. If the glue is strong, you may have to scrape the insert off in pieces. Superfeet insoles are made with a firm plastic molded base that will not lend itself to being glued onto an orthotic--and Superfeet insoles are an over-the-counter type of orthotics. Your orthotics are shaped to fit your feet, Superfeet are generic insoles. Use your new orthotic or use Superfeet.
