[pct-l] California - CCC Closures

I'm sorry, but if anybody out there thinks the Republicans ( who's mantra is
"pay your own damn way") are going to willingly finance much of anything with
taxes (borrowed money is another matter) let alone a National Scenic Trail,
you are living in a fantasy world. Most of them seem to think that anyone riding
a public bus is taking money out of their pocket. And where on earth did you
Californians get the idea that citizens can tax themselves in a democracy via
referendum??? Betcha that's why the Founding Fathers decided on a Republic,
where a CONGRESS makes taxes instead. Let's put the income tax up to a public
vote and see what happens
I went hiking with a Libertarian once and he was complaining about a long
approach to a trailhead due to a washed out road. The Forest Service, as usual,
was short on funds and had no money for repairing that road. So I told him
practice what he preached and to waltz on down to the nearest bulldozer operator
and pay for repairing the road himself since HE was the one who wanted to use
it. What's good for the goose is -------
As for what is considered essential government services, some people
wouldn't consider much of anything essential, if the money comes out of their pocket
and they don't use it directly, like a road to their favorite trailhead. It's
all relative
