[pct-l] Hiking Poles

Hi Rik,
My hands do not seem to be a problem nor do they hurt using the poles
without the straps. I would say that at least 50% of the time my poles are
held lightly between my thumb and forefinger, the rest of the time they are
gripped lightly with the entire hand, sometimes my hands are on the top of
the pole especially when crossing water etc. I do not feel I have to
grip them that hard.

I stopped playing golf a few years ago because I could not grip the golf
club correctly, I could not get my fingers to close over the club handle
(even with bigger grips) so being me, if I could not play to my handicap
then I just quit playing golf. However that is not the case with the hiking
poles, I am out there it seems forever now.

Cheers,

I thought the idea of the straps was to take the weight! I barely grip the
handle as I have found that having to grip tight enough to put all that
force through the pole makes my hands ache, I prefer to lightly grip the
pole and let the force go straight through the 5th metacarple of my hand via
the strap (which on my leki poles have a softer material on the inside to
prevent any chaffing). I'm surprised you can grip hard enough without the
straps especially if you have arthritic hands?
