Dave,

No Yogi knows what's she is doing!! She has been around the block a time or two as far as backpacking is concerned. She has thru hiked the AT; this is her second PCT thru hike, in addition to over 1500 miles of PCT in 2001.

I agree with Brick, most likely she got it somehow from another hiker or even in Mojave.
