[pct-l] Mt. Whitney

Horseshoe Meadows/Cottonwood Pass or New Army Pass/Cottonwood Lakes
trailheads-to-Mt. Whitney is a very nice 4-day hike, if you change your mind on the
Whitney Portal trail. You'll need a shuttle to do it, though.

My suggestion: get your permit the afternoon before your hike and be on the
trail between 4:00-5:00am, earlier if you can. Pack absolutely as light as
possible. There are 27 hot, dusty switchbacks between the John Muir Wilderness
sign and the woods near Lone Pine Lake. The sun comes up around 6:00am and
by 9 it's right toasty.
