There was a troublesome bear up around Little Jimmy in the San Gabriels las=
t year and the year before, mostly bothering the car camper types who were =
careless with food storage.  The bear was very persistent and kept some peo=
ple up all night.  However, that area was burned later this past season, an=
d may be closed in that area this year (will try to find out before the ADZ=
PCTKO).  Hard to say how the resident wildlife made out with the fires.

Todd, the CTUC volunteer who mans the North Fork Ranger Station on the ridg=
e before dropping down to Agua Dulce has had bears up his way, rummaging in=
 the trash nightly, although they've been quiet through the winter, apparen=
tly.  I personally saw a mountain lion not far from that same station when =
up visiting Todd about a year back, which was quite a thrill (seeing the mo=
untain lion, that is).  There's something else to think about when you're l=
istening to the things that make sounds in the night! :o)
