[pct-l] Re: Esbit Stoves



Hi Steve,
I do not know what kind of a boy scout stove you had. Mine is IDENTICAL to
the Esbit stove you would buy at Campmor except for the weight factor and of
course it is not made out of Tensile steel.  There are some three prong
stoves out and maybe this is what you are talking about.  I am using the
same stove for the past three years now and have several hundred miles on
and I think it would work great for section or thru hiker, in my opinion.

I tried the Boy Scout stove and found that it couldn't put out much heat.
The problem may be that it blocks too much air or maybe the pot is too close
to the flame. Since I don't have the stove anymore I can't be certain.
Whatever the reason, it is not a good stove for thruhikers. It does not put
out enough heat.
