I used Lowa - the rocking sole on my model caused many a slip that could ha=
ve been avoided. The Lowa were comfortable - I had to have a flexible sole =
because of a foot injury - but I would NOT recommend them for snow travel. =
I slipped and slid my way to Cedar Grove where I switched to the stiffer-s=
oled Lowa and walked in pain, but with a lot more confidence, to Tahoe. Th=
ere I switched to Hi-Tec trail runners (I was offered any and all Hi-Tec pr=
oducts I wanted or needed to finish the trail - Trail Magic!) and wore them=
to mid Oregon where I switched to leather Nikes.
I love leather, it's all I use in very hot or very cold temperatures, but w=
ithout treatment it gets wet and heavy and stays wet and heavy for days.

I think I've narrowed down my footwear for our JMT early season hike to
the Lowa Tempest Lo
(http://www.lowaboots.com/catalog/ShowBoot.cfm?StockNum=3D3119164640&Catego=
ry=3D4&Type=3DM)
.
I'm a little concerned about how quickly they will dry, as they have
leather uppers.
They have a different model called the Vento II
(http://www.lowaboots.com/catalog/ShowBoot.cfm?StockNum=3D3119567899&Catego=
ry=3D4&Type=3DM)
This model has a "split leather upper with open weave 3D mesh for
ultimate ventilation". I'm thinking these will dry faster.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
THanks for the help.
Nate
