re: finding rare books...congratulations, Monte!  I too found the "rare
classic " Pacific Crest Trails" by Joseph T. Hazard copyright 1946" in a
used bookstore in Portland last year - seems I paid $6 for it - it was
apparently a discard from the Fort Vancouver Regional Library.  Hmmn, shame
on them for discarding such a classic - but nice for me!

The subtitle's worth noting: From Alaska to Cape Horn.  Now THAT's a
thruhike.
