[pct-l] Re: Temperatures

Snow, snow and more snow.

Some of the coldest:
San Felipe Hills, 70 mph winds and snow/ice. early April (11 non-Pct'ers died, or so I was told).
Mission Creek, snow, May 8.
Just past Deep Creek, snow, horizontal hail, snow and drenching rain
Mt Whitney area, single digit, snow, early June
Mt Hood, blizzard in August

Heat, not a worry in '99 except for Sierra City, early July, 110 F
I left real early though (March 29) - I don't do well in heat.

Since I don't carry a thermometer, I can't give accurate stats.

But - in one summer trip, I remember frost on the tent at Crater Lake - 1st
cold spot of the trek. In another year, it was warm and pleasant on the rim.
Coldest in 2000 was in Washington around Snoqualamie after a rain -
everything froze, including my running shoes left outside. There were about
3-5 days of cold at night. Days were OK.

Heat: the desert and Hat Creek Rim were the hotest, as to be expected.
