[pct-l] to sleep with or not to sleep with...

Believe it or not, I actually have encountered a bear while sleeping
with my food. In my last post I mentioned that a bear came waltzing
through our campsite in "bear-alley". Actually the bear came right
up to my tent and stared at me through the sloping mesh door. he
stayed there for a few seconds, then wandered to another campsite
where we heard campers yelling and banging pots. Whatever those guys
did sure made him like to stick around at that campsite. That bear
jacked with them for hours.... all night long. He never came back to
bother us.

Tom, I have not witnessed anyone who slept with their food being
attacked by a bear, howver, I did hear second-hand from a ranger
about a guy who left some food in his tent while day-hiking and
returned to a bear munching on it. The total IDIOT tried to take the
food back from the bear and was mamed rather severely. One thing to
note here: Once the bear has your food, its no longer your food, its
HIS food. ...and as I noted earlier, the bear will fight to the
death to protect it.

Also, Tom - thanks for the logical and reasonable dialogue. It seems
like this issue is like abortion: no one ever changes another's mind,
we all just keep spouting our own opinions.

peace!
dude
