[pct-l] Todays' PCT Trinity Alps verses Yesteryear's Alps

--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Todays " Ridge route" through the Trinity Alps offers lots of views over
the PCT route of the 70's BUT older route had more water spots to drink from.
Older route was somewhat more work and you had to climb up and drop down into
several remote canyons. ( Trail Gutch Saddle, etc.) The older route though
offered many wonderful areas that todays ridge route doesn't see! Several
nice cabins ( Wolford Cabin is best backcountry shelter I've every seen!) and
many nice lakes. The PCT doesn't do this area justice. Trinity Alps are over
shadowed by Sierra's and Cascades by most thru-hikers today. If you have an
old PCT guide book, compare it to todays's route. I would tell the thru-hiker
NOT in a hurry to check out the old route through this area an give it a shot
over todays quicker ridge run. Monte
